How to Wash Denim

How to Wash Denim

Denim differs in construction and dye treatment, and thoughtful care helps preserve its shape and color. We love to keep our favorite denim around as long as possible.

Prewash

  • Pre-treat stains prior to washing to maintain color and integrity
  • Wet the area with cool water
  • Apply Lindry Lab Stain Remover and gently work in with the Lindry Lab Stain Remover Brush -For dark denim, avoid leaving the remover on the fabric for extended periods
  • Darker denim typically has dye loss in the wash so it is important to separate lights from darks before washing. If unsure, test a discreet area first

Washing

  • Close all buttons and zippers and turn denim inside out to help preserve color and finish
  • Wash in cold water on a gentle or delicate cycle with your preferred Lindry Lab detergent. Dose according to your load size
  • Avoid over-washing. Frequent laundering can gradually weaken fibers and diminish the integrity of the fabric

Drying

  • Reshape while damp and line dry to maintain color and form
  • If using a dryer, opt for low or no heat, as high temperatures may cause fading and shrinkage

Storing

LL Tip: New denim should be washed separately during the first few cycles, as indigo dyes may release color. Keep whites, lights, and dark tones apart to prevent transfer. Raw denim benefits from less frequent washing to preserve its structure and depth of color. If using a dryer, remove while slightly damp and allow to air dry to maintain shape.
